Seminar on Patentability of Genes and Diagnostics

On Thursday, September 26, 2013, Georgia Tech will host a seminar on the recent Supreme Court ruling, Association for Molecular Pathology v. Myriad Genetics, Inc. The 2013 case challenged whether it is valid to patent genes and diagnostics in the U.S. The seminar will also address other patent issues that have become important since the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act was signed into law.

The speaker, Charles Vorndran, JD, PhD, has prosecuted patent applications directed to bionanotechnology small molecule therapies, genetics, proteins, oligonucleotides, anti-virals, antibody technology, screening assays, DNA/RNA technology, stem cells, tissue engineering, microarrays and peptide nucleic acid technology.

The seminar will be held on September 26, 2013, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., Suddath Symposium Room, in the Institute for Bioengineering & Bioscience.
