Once a disclosure form has been submitted to the Office of Industry Engagement and a prior art search has been conducted, a licensing associate works with the innovator to explore the innovation’s commercial potential. The Office of Industry Engagement relies on a process tool — the Commercialization Roadmap — to evaluate Georgia Tech inventions and develop an effective commercialization plan. This tool is used by Industry Engagement staff to evaluate the patentability, marketability, and technological merit of each new disclosure. The Office of Industry Engagement’s evaluation process is typically completed within 3-4 months. We encourage our innovators and partners to consult the Commercialization Roadmap template in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of how the evaluation process works.
Once a decision has been made to commercialize an invention, the Office of Industry Engagement handles the appropriate patent, trademark, or copyright filings.
